Care between visits
The best first step depends on the fiber, the spill and the manufacturer's instructions. These are everyday starting points, not a recipe for every carpet or fabric.
Regular vacuuming removes loose grit before traffic works it deeper into the pile. Busy areas need more attention. Check the carpet maker's instructions and use a vacuum setting suited to the pile, especially for high or delicate pile.
Lift any solids gently. Blot liquid with a dry, plain white cloth or white paper towel, working from the outside toward the center. Scrubbing can change the carpet's texture. If a spot remains, identify what spilled before choosing a product.
A pantry mixture, laundry product or general household spray is not automatically safe for carpet or upholstery. Read the product label and the textile maker's care instructions. If you use a compatible carpet spot product, test a hidden area first and use only the labeled amount. Never mix cleaning products, including bleach with another cleaner.
Wool and other sensitive materials need suitable products and a pretest. If you cannot identify the material or its care instructions, send us a photo before wetting it. Some rugs and upholstery need inspection or a different cleaning method.
Tell us the fiber if you know it, what spilled and what you have already tried. A photo helps. We can advise whether to stop, try a suitable home product or have us inspect it.
